Fiona Gall has a BA (hons) in Design crafts and has been working as a designer-maker specialising in sculptural wirework for the past six years.

Her work is constructed from a combination of metals, wire mainly, and recycled glass objects. Glass jewels are encased in the wire, which in turn is hammered, rolled, wrapped and brazed.

Inspired by a wide range of sources from organic linear forms, grandiose style interiors, and lavish jewelled costumes to the illustrations or Rowland Emett and Alan Lee. Fiona then combines these with her interest in "Faerie" to create unusual/timeless sculptural pieces. These range from faerie goblets, chandeliers, and handbags to large sculptural plant forms.

Now her use of the term "Faerie" needs a little explaining, which is a dilemma in itself for as J.R.Tolkien puts it: "Faerie cannot be caught in a net of words for it is one of its qualities to be indescribable, though not imperceptible."

He goes on to say that: "Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays, and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants, or dragons: it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are in it: tree and birdƒ."

To many people the land of Faerie appears to be made up, a fantasy of the imagination, but at the same time many truths are held within it. Many of the creatures and people in it are associated with myths, folklore and ancient legends from around the world.

In the same way that many "fantasy" writers create this world in the minds eye, Fiona aka the Emerald Faerie brings them here for you to see.

"Glimpse into the world through the eyes of the Emerald Faerie. Imagined wonder made manifest by way of sculptural wire and reclaimed glass lighting"
